Argentina Matavel Piccin

Ms. Argentina Matavel Piccin is the Representative ad interim for the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Sudan, effective July 24, 2024. A passionate advocate for the rights of women and girls, she brings over 25 years of experience to this role, having held leadership positions across Africa, North America and Asia with UNFPA and World Vision International. Ms. Piccin holds a Master’s degree in International Development from the American University and has extensive expertise in forging strategic partnerships in challenging development and humanitarian contexts.

Ms. Argentina Matavel Piccin is the Representative ad interim for the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Sudan as of July 24, 2024.

Ms. Piccin is a staunch advocate for the Rights of women and girls. She has served with UNFPA in various capacities in Africa and Asia. Before retiring in July of 2023, Ms. Piccin was the Regional Director for the West and Central Africa Region, based in Dakar, Senegal, covering 23 countries. She has also served as UNFPA Representative in India and Bhutan, Bangladesh, Mongolia, Côte d’Ivoire and Botswana. Before joining UNFPA, she held leadership positions in Mozambique and the USA with World Vision International, a leading development and humanitarian NGO.

A national of Mozambique and Italy, Ms. Matavel Piccin has over 25 years of demonstrated success forging strategic alliances and partnerships in complex development and humanitarian settings. She holds a Master’s degree in International Development from the American University, Washington DC, and a Certificate towards an Executive Master’s Programme in Public Policy Management from the Georgetown University Public Policy Institute (GPPI), Washington, DC.
