In partnership with the National Reproductive Health Programme of the Federal ministry of health and the Sudan Family Planning Association, UNFPA organized a Seminar on National Policies of Family Planning Services: Main Barriers and Gaps and Suggested Solutions on 8th Januay, 2013.

Expert papers and discussions covered issues such as family planning policies and main barriers to Family Planning Programme, Perceptions of the Public about Family Planning (research finding). Training of service providers, health system, policies and community culture, cost, information gaps and expiration of drugs were identified as the main challenges to family planning in Sudan.

Recommendations included encouraging research, data and commodity availability, strengthening the role of midwives as service providers in addition to advocacy and awareness-raising with focus on socio-cultural aspects of family planning.
