UNFPA and European Commission Strengthen Life-Saving
Support for Conflict-Affected Populations in Sudan
Port Sudan – The United Nations Population Fund has received additional funding from the European Union’s Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (DG ECHO) to scale up critical sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and gender-based violence (GBV) services in conflict-affected areas of Sudan.
Through an amended agreement, the EU has increased its financial contribution to EUR 6.3 million, enabling the expansion of life-saving assistance for displaced and vulnerable populations across high-priority regions.
The updated 12-month initiative, running under the project “Provision of emergency life-saving integrated SRH/GBV response, prevention, and mitigation assistance”, aims to reach tens of thousands of women and girls who are at heightened risk due to the ongoing conflict and humanitarian crisis.
The expanded EU-funded project will focus on three strategic pillars:
1. Delivering Emergency Reproductive Health Services.
2. Strengthening Referral Pathways and Access to Care.
3. Expanding GBV Prevention and Survivor Support.
This strengthened partnership between UNFPA and the European Union underscores a shared commitment to addressing the urgent humanitarian needs of Sudan’s most vulnerable populations and ensuring that no woman or girl is left behind in crisis.
